Almost every day I get asked for my instagram and I have to explain people I do not have any social medias. Why?
- I don't want to spend more time on my phone than "necessary"
- I don't like how that makes people feel miserable from the stories I hear from my friends
- I don't feel aligned with most of the "yoga" content
-Yoga, a once ancient and sacred practice, has become something different in the Western world until the point that it has been sexualized as a result of a toxic society
People obviously want to show their good times, holidays and big smiles. It's not a secret that comparing yourself to others via social media has negative effects that can lead to depression. Instead spend your time focusing on the good things in your life. Taking time for gratitude has the opposite effect of social comparison.
Excessive use can fuel feelings of anxiety, depression and isolation. They can make you feel more lonely and therefore there is a risk they increase mental health problems.
Sharing endless selfies and wait for validation can create an unhealthy self-centeredness and distance you from real-life connections. It also means you need your dose of likes to feel good.
